Hardware modules in Lab-Volt's Analog Communications training system are quite similar to equipment in general use, and were designed to be as realistic and near as possible to real systems. They share the same operating principles and electrical characteristics, and the frequencies and ranges used for AM and FM reflect standard radio broadcasting usage. Functional block diagrams enhance understanding of the communications system being implemented, and allow a systems approach to be promoted. A complete set of laboratory exercise manuals provides many different opportunities to explore RF concepts like transmission, reception, modulation, bandwidth, signal and noise power, and also relate functional operation to different sub-systems. A top-panel door on instructional modules gives access to circuit boards, test points and fault insertion switches. This allows students/personnel to practice valuable troubleshooting skills.
